Making homemade shampoo is not as difficult as you’d think, and while it might not lather the same as the shampoo you’re used to, it will clean your hair and keep it shiny and silky without stripping out every last drop of natural oil.
1. Coconut Milk Homemade Shampoo
¼ cup Coconut milk
⅓ cup Baby Shampoo (Preferably Organic)
1 tsp. Vitamin E Oil
20 Drops Essentials Oil
To make this shampoo, add the milk and baby shampoo to an empty, clean bottle. Add the vitamin E oil and then add your essential oil. Shake the bottle to combine the ingredients thoroughly. You can store this just like you would like any other shampoo.
2. Herbal Homemade Shampoo
1 cup Water
3 oz. Castile Soap
2 Tbsp. Organic Herbs, Dried
60 Drops Essential Oils
¼ tsp. Jojoba or Olive Oil
Pour some boiling water over the herbs to make an herbal infusion. Cover them and let them steep for around four hours or up to overnight. Strain out the herbs and pour the liquid into a clean bottle. Add the castile soap and the oils. Shake it up a bit and it’s ready to use! Shake it well before every use because the contents are going to separate naturally.
3. Honey Homemade Shampoo
1 Tbsp. Raw Honey
3 Tbsp. Filtered Water
2-3 Drops Essential Oil
To make a single serving of this shampoo, use the aforementioned measurements. You can triple, quadruple, or more if you need to. Heat the mixture over low heat to get the honey to dissolve and melt in with the water. It’s going to be watery, but that’s how it needs to be.
Add a few drops of your essential oil. Lavender or carrot seed are both good options. They will add a night fragrance and help with a flaky scalp issue. The carrot seed oil is very nourishing to dry, damaged hair.
To use this shampoo, wet your hair and massage it with a few tablespoons of the shampoo. Massage it well to get it all over your scalp and hair. Rinse your hair thoroughly. You won’t need to follow up with a conditioner. You could follow up with an apple cider vinegar rinse if you want an extra boost in shine.
4. Baking Soda and ACV Homemade Shampoo
1 Tbsp. Baking Soda
8 oz. Warm Water
1 Tbsp. Apple Cider Vinegar
8 oz. Warm Water
To make the shampoo and the conditioner, mix the first two ingredients together in a bottle and shake until the baking soda has dissolved. Use a funnel to put it into the container. Then mix the apple cider vinegar with another eight hours of water in a separate bottle. Store it in a squirt bottle.
To use this, use the baking soda mix as you would shampoo. Then use the vinegar like you would for conditioner. Wet your hair thoroughly and rub a bit of the baking soda mix into the scalp. Rinse it well and then rub in the vinegar mix.
5. Coconut Oil and Honey Homemade Shampoo
1 Tbsp. Coconut Oil
3 Tbsp. Liquid Honey
3 Drops Lavender Essential Oil
To make this shampoo, get a bowl and squeeze in three tablespoons of wildflower honey, add a tablespoon of coconut oil, and then add three drops of lavender essential oil. Stir this well with a spoon to make a creamy shampoo and add it to a squirt bottle. You should make this every other day to keep it fresh.
6. Lemon, Rosemary, and Egg Homemade Shampoo
2 Eggs
4 tsp. Honey
3 tsp. Rhassoul Clay
1 tsp. Coconut Oil
¼ cup Water
3 Drops Lemon Essential Oil
7 Drops Rosemary Essential Oil
Make sure you mix up a new batch of this daily, or the egg will spoil. To make the shampoo, combine everything but the essential oils in a blender and pulse for around seven seconds. It’ll start to foam up. Add the essential oil and stir the mixture well. Transfer this to a glass jar and take it to the shower with you.
Wet your hair in the shower. Slowly pour the shampoo over your scalp and down into your hair. Begin massaging your scallop and hair to loosen any grime and dirt that’s built up. Let it rest two minutes and then rinse it off with some cool water. You don’t want to use hot water because the egg will cook. Wrap your hair in a towel, and once it’s dry, your hair will smell like rosemary and lemon, and it’ll be very soft!
7. Chamomile Homemade Shampoo
4 Tbsp. Soap Flakes
4 Bags Chamomile Tea
1 ½ Tbsp. Glycerin
Steep the tea bags in one and a half cups of boiled water for ten minutes. Remove the bags and add the soap flakes to the liquid that remains. Allow this to rest until the soap flakes have softened. Stir in the glycerin and mix it all together until it’s thoroughly combined. Then pour it into a bottle and store it in a dark, cool place.
8. Soapwort Homemade Shampoo
2 cups of Distilled Water
1 ½ Tbsp. Soapwort Root
2 tsp. Lemon Verbena
Bring your water to a boil and then add the soapwort. Let it simmer for around twenty minutes, covered. Remove the mixture from the heat and add the lemon verbena. Then let the mixture cool. Strain the mixture to keep the liquid but get rid of the lemon verbena and the root. Pour this into a bottle. This makes enough for around six to seven washes. Store this in a cool, dark place for up to eight to ten days.
